About
Welcome!
My name is Anush Movsesian Avejic, and for as long as I can remember, I have always been involved in the process of creating. When I was a kid, it was weaving pot holders on a craft loom, learning to crochet from my grandmother, making my own beads out of flour/water with my dad. I was blessed to have parents that challenged my creativity. If I saw something I liked, my job was to try creating it. That started a lifelong passion of learning all kinds of skills in art, crafting, and music.
Growing up in an Armenian American home, we were surrounded by culture. Musicians, poets, clergy, authors, friends and family were always welcome in our home. My father was always playing his violin, mandolin or oud. My mom would draw, had amazing lettering skills, teach Armenian school, and paint. I am the second of four children, and we were all encouraged to make music!
When I graduated high school, I chose music as my career path thinking I would love to be a jazz flute player. But one year into my journey I changed my major to my first love – Art. My goal was to become an illustrator of children’s books. That goal was realized when I was asked to illustrate two books for the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church – “When I go to Church” and “When I Get Baptized”.
I work in a variety of media – Colored Pencil, Technical Pen, Watercolor, Acrylic, Armenian Coffee (Yes, I paint with Armenian coffee). And I create unique handcrafted jewelry from beads, silver and copper metal clays, and crystals. I love collaborating with my clients and making their vision for a project a reality. I am open for custom commissions in both illustrations, Armenian or English decorative lettering, watercolor, digital or acrylic art.
I live in Southern California with my husband and my accordion – Gladys. We are blessed with five beautiful grandchildren who make our lives very full and blessed.
I look forward to meeting you!
Sirov,
Anush
